The Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI) is implemented by GIZ and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). TUMI is the leading global implementation initiative on sustainable mobility, formed through the union of 11 prestigious partners. TUMI’s vision is thriving cities with enhanced economic, social and environmental performances in line with the New Urban Agenda, the Agenda 2030 and the Paris Agreement. TUMI is based on three pillars: multilateral cooperation, knowledge/ innovation, investment.

This self-placed course on Risk Informed Urban Development in African Cities, provides foundational knowledge and practical tools to help planners, policymakers, and development practitioners make African cities safer, more resilient, and better prepared for future uncertainties.

Urban areas across Africa are growing rapidly, facing the twin challenges of climate change and increasing disaster risks. Through the modules, case studies, and real-life examples, the course explores the interconnections between urban growth, risk assessment, governance, financing, and  short- and long-term resilience actions. By the end, participants will understand how to integrate climate and disaster risk considerations into urban planning and decision-making processes to create cities that are inclusive, sustainable, and adaptable to change.
